East Ramapo voters clearly rejected the proposed tax-cap-busting $232.6 million proposed budget with a vote of 9,986 to 1,441. The proposed spending plan with its 2.49 percent tax levy increase would have restored busing for yeshivas and private school students on days when the public schools are off.
After rejecting a budget, a second vote may be held or, school boards can choose to adopt a contingency budget which, under state law, would require zero percent growth in the district’s tax levy.
