New City, NY (June 13, 2017) – Rockland County Legislators have submitted a resolution that expresses disgust for the latest despicable acts of anti-Semitism and racism to take place in Rockland – the spray-painting of swastikas and racial epithets at the peak of Hit Tor Mountain.
The Legislature’s Multi-Services Committee is scheduled to vote on the resolution this evening during its 6:30 p.m.meeting.
At this time, the sponsors are Legislators Michael Grant, Ilan Schoenberger, Philip Soskin, Aron Wieder and Alden H. Wolfe. Additional legislators may ask to be added as sponsors.
“We have no room for this type of hate in Rockland County,” Legislator Grant said. “It is unacceptable for people to make others feel small or worse, feel afraid in the community in which they live.”
Legislator Soskin said he condemned this latest act of hate and asked for all residents to treat their neighbors with respect and not engage in such horrible acts.
“No person should feel like they have been targeted due to their race, religion, ethnicity and so forth,” Legislator Soskin said. “I condemn these acts and ask the perpetrators to stop and think about what they are doing – and to not do it.”
