Suffern, NY – Town of Ramapo Supervisor Yitzchok Ullman has written the following letter to Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos expressing the Town’s interest in being the home to a new Amazon Headquarters.  Amazon HQ2 is expected to generate 50,000 new jobs over the next two decades.

“On behalf of the residents of Ramapo, N.Y., I am writing to express my deep appreciation to you for opening the process of selecting a second headquarters for Amazon (HQ2) to communities across North America.  Amazon has been transformative for communities, consumers and commerce alike.  We would welcome the opportunity to partner with you as Amazon continues to grow, which is why we intend to submit a proposal to locate Amazon HQ2 at the campus location formerly occupied by Novartis Pharmaceuticals and the Tilcon Quarry in Ramapo before the October 19th deadline in your Request for Proposal (RFP).

Based on the criteria in your RFP, I am convinced that Ramapo is the ideal location for Amazon HQ2.  If you are looking for a location near a metropolitan area with more than one million people, a stable and business-friendly environment, a community that can attract and retain strong technical talent, and a plethora of transportation and infrastructure options, this is the ideal locations.

Currently, our town has a vacant 220 acre property (two adjacent parcels) that served as a major facility for a global pharmaceutical company that is awaiting development and is an ideal location for a major company.  That property is near or connected to major highway transportation options including the New York State Thruway, the Garden State Parkway and the Palisades Parkway.  Ramapo is less than 30 miles from Grand Central Station in New York City, and less than 40 miles from all five of the airports that serve the New York Metropolitan area.  We have a diverse and highly educated workforce living in the shadow of the largest city in the country.  And all this is located in a town with terrific schools and where more than half of our land is parks and open space.

Here in Ramapo, we have experience hosting global corporations and are confident we can work with you and leaders here at the state and local level to prepare a proposal that will leave you no option but to build Amazon HQ2 right here in Ramapo.  We look forward to working with you and your team so your company and our community can build a future together.”
