Think about anything in the material world that exists: animal, vegetable, mineral; on the earth or in the universe.

Has it ever occurred to you that you are the only creation which is capable of changing yourself? Everything else except human beings is exactly what it is and cannot choose to change itself in any way.

What an incredible gift! You have the gift of choice.

You do not ever have to stay stuck in a negative thought or repeat behavior that is not productive. You can decide who you want to be, what to think about, how to behave, what is important to you to accomplish. And then you can learn methods to lead you to become who you want to be. Birds, comets, grass and the wind cannot do this. Only you can.

If you are a parent you may feel as though your choice of what to think or how to behave has been taken away from you by the never ending demands and often frustrating antics of your child, but that is only a feeling. You can always choose how to react to and how to manage whatever your child needs or does.

(The following was added for the parents of children with special needs with whom I am in contact.)

If your child has special needs you may think and feel that your choices are severely limited. And they may be. Your child’s health, mobility, communication and social skills may require so much of your energy and resources that you have little choice but to provide for your child. At the end of the day all the giving that you have done may leave you exhausted. There may be nothing left for you.

At the end of the day besides drained and exhausted (physical feelings) how do you feel emotionally? Do you stop even a moment to let yourself feel emotionally about all that is in your life? Or do you push away the feelings because you just don’t have the energy to deal with them?

Here is where you always have a choice. At any moment of the day, with all the giving that you do, and no matter how exhausted you may be, you can choose to feel good about yourself.

You may have moments of doubt or even guilt that you aren’t doing enough (we all do at one time or another). But it isn’t true. Something may be holding you back from doing more, but whatever you are doing is what you able do at that moment.

If you feel that you could give more, are you ready now to learn how? If so, get started doing it. Either way, accept yourself. And choose to feel good.

It is now a time for introspection. I encourage you to inspect your “end of the day” true feelings. You have everything to gain by dynamically feeling good. If there is something holding you back, be bold: look at your situation and do something to remove the blocks. And choose to feel good. It is so much better for you and others than the alternative.

May you have great success in all of your choices.

I give my blessing to each of you that this be a year of excellent health, clarity and focus and energy to achieve deeper spiritual connections, joy from your family, and peace in your home.

And may we be together to share simcha.

Take very good care.
